So, I recently held a poll to find out which characters the fans most want to see in the midst of the Mishima family rivalry. Here are the highly rated characters they’d love to witness!
(Stay tuned till the end for some honorable mentions!)
Mortal Kombat
It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that fans would be thrilled to see Sub Zero or Scorpion go head-to-head with the Mishima bloodline. The rivalry aspect between the leaders of the Lin Kuei and Shirai Ryu clans hits close to home with the likes of Heihachi, Kazuya, and Jin. While the family aspect may differ, other character rivalries such as Hwoarang and Jin, Paul and Kuma, Bryan and Yoshimitsu, etc., could provide interesting matchups within the Tekken universe.
Street Fighter
With the crossover game Street Fighter X Tekken and Akuma’s inclusion in Tekken 7, there are numerous possibilities for various Street Fighter characters to make appearances in Tekken 8. Personally, I believe Cody Travers, the legendary brawler from Metro City, would be an incredible addition as a guest character. Considering Paul Phoenix’s background as a street fighter and bouncer, imagine the interactions if they were to cross paths. (Consider this my personal request to Harada!)
Yakuza
This topic has been a hot discussion for some time now. In the Yakuza series, Kazuma Kiryu’s deep and emotionally engaging story keeps players invested and yearning for more. Kiryu’s ability to switch between four different fighting styles in his games could make for an intriguing addition as a guest character in the Tekken franchise. However, Sega has expressed their reservations about their characters engaging in fights with female characters, which is morally understandable but somewhat disappointing. Who knows what the future holds?
DC
The suggestion of Batman, the Gotham Knight himself, fitting into the Tekken universe sparks divided opinions. His fighting style, grieving backstory, and unwavering determination could play a role in uncovering Kazuya’s weaknesses and aiding Jin in his quest. After all, we are talking about the world’s greatest detective. However, it remains uncertain whether this pitch would convince Harada and DC, so it’s best not to get our hopes up.
Honorable Mentions
- Terry Bogard from the Fatal Fury and KOF series should be at the top of the list for potential guest characters in Tekken 8, considering his personal revenge story against Geese Howard (another guest character in Tekken 7) for killing his father.
- Ryu Hayabusa from the Ninja Gaiden series, a recurring guest character in various fighting games, might also be a prime candidate. His involvement with the Majin Clan and the likes of Yoshimitsu or Kunimitsu would make for an intriguing matchup.
- Hanama Baki from the anime “Baki” has a captivating storyline that could fit well in a non-canonical setting. Imagining Baki vs Fahkumram would indeed be fascinating.
